What is an idiom?

Idioms are fun (but difficult)! What is an idiom? An idiom is a sentence with a special meaning. Maybe you can understand the words in the sentence but still not understand the meaning of the sentence!

For Example: It is raining cats and dogs outside!

What does this idiom mean? Does it mean that animals (dogs and cats) are falling from the clouds? NO! It means that it is raining very heavily outside right now.

Here is another example. Do you know what this idiom means?

He was all ears when his boss talked.

Guess the meaning of the idiom "all ears"!

Hello! Xin Chao! Hola! Wie gehts! Howdy!

Welcome to my ESL blog! What is a blog? A blog is a like a diary. But this "diary" is not for me but for YOU! I want to help you learn English. I am an English teacher. I love English and I hope that you will love it too!

Sometimes, I will write a short paragraph about my life, the news, etc. Sometimes I will write a question about grammar, an idiom, etc. If you want to write the answer (or write about anything you like), it is simple! Just click on the word comments and you can write!

One thing to remember: Let's learn English together -- like a family. Write about anything you want, but always be polite. We need to help each other and respect each other. English is sometimes difficult (and sometimes crazy!), but it is fun, too!

Here are some questions for you:

1. What is your name?
2. What do you do?
3. Where do you work?
4. What do you like to do on the weekends?

Click on the comments button and write your answers! Have fun!
