What is an idiom?

Idioms are fun (but difficult)! What is an idiom? An idiom is a sentence with a special meaning. Maybe you can understand the words in the sentence but still not understand the meaning of the sentence!

For Example: It is raining cats and dogs outside!

What does this idiom mean? Does it mean that animals (dogs and cats) are falling from the clouds? NO! It means that it is raining very heavily outside right now.

Here is another example. Do you know what this idiom means?

He was all ears when his boss talked.

Guess the meaning of the idiom "all ears"!
